Database Developer/Designer (19-049)


Location: Washington, DC

Security Clearance Eligibility: Active Public Trust clearance is required

Duties and Responsibilities:

1 Source is looking for a Database Developer/Designer to work collaboratively with other contractors and federal staff at the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB) to develop and modify the data base schemas for custom applications support, as well as designing logical and physical data models, establishing enterprise-wide data architecture, data integration, and data management strategies. Other duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Develop, produce, and maintain database designs for custom business applications in accordance with business, regulatory, and security requirements
  • Design, develop, and maintain database tables, views, indexes, triggers, and constraints
  • Work directly with software developers to design and/or optimize queries for efficient data retrieval and processing
  • Organize and analyze databases for efficient reporting and retrieval
  • Identify data needs for auditing and traceability purposes
  • Create and/or maintain SQL Loader, PL/SQL, and stored procedures
  • Design, develop, test, and maintain reports using a variety of reporting tools
  • Code, document, and test data manipulation scripts to migrate, convert, and/or correct data
  • Assist with research and analyze new data related technology
  • Facilitate and ensure data quality, data validation, and data security
  • Work closely with business analysts and developers to ensure system designs are aligned with business needs
  • Write detailed deployment and maintenance instructions
  • Develop enhancements to support existing data repositories, data ingestion, dashboards, and reports
  • Participate in data management and data governance activities to assist with defining, monitoring, and enforcing standards and best practices


Education and Years of Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s Degree in Computer Science or related technical field
  • 3+ years of experience as a Database Developer/Designer
  • Experience writing DDL Scripts to create Oracle database objects (tables, views, indexes, triggers, and constraints), and DML scripts to manipulate data
  • Experience with performing database design and code reviews to ensure compliance with database design standards
  • Experience with Oracle and PostgreSQL databases
  • Experience with JIRA, Pivotal Tracker or comparable Agile-based management tool
  • Experience with data analytics and data visualization tools and reporting
  • Experience working in an Agile development environment

Required Skills:

  • Ability to give advice on SQL query optimization, stored procedure design, and troubleshoot database performance issues
  • Ability to create and maintain SQL Loader batch programs and PL/SQL stored procedures
  • Ability to extract business logic from source code to facilitate legacy application conversion and upgrade activities
  • Knowledge of ETL processes and tools
  • Knowledge of XML, HTML, and related tools
