Senior DevOps Platform Engineer (17-014)

Duties and Responsibilities:

1 Source is looking for a Senior DevOps Platform Engineer to work collaboratively with other contractors and federal staff at the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB) to develop a leading edge, highly resilient, applications hosting platform. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Demonstrate deep technical competency in a variety of technology disciplines (virtualization, storage area networks, virtualized networking, clustering, hardening, advanced configurations for database and middleware resiliency, automated configuration management, traffic balancing, and automation) in order to effectively audit the existing environment, and engineer and implement a comprehensive successor platform. 
  • Work with a team of Linux administrators, middle tier administrators, and database administrators to survey, identify, and modernize our legacy on-premise platform with a strong emphasis on automating virtualization, infrastructure, security compliance, and management tasks and ensuring high availability. 
  • Author and develop project management support artifacts to assist in presenting initiatives for platform improvements including discrete technical assignments, sequencing, requirement and risk registers, and system diagrams for presentation and approval.
  • Assist in developing response procedures associated with automated monitoring and alerting of all critical components to ensure availability.
  • Ensure that environment, application, or automation initiatives have proper support documentation such as standard operating procedures (daily operations, failover operations, data flow and traffic diagrams, administrative guides) when appropriate.
  • Be flexible and willing to fill various strategic needs and must be comfortable with solving critical problems which may be the result of past legacy decisions.
  • This role will also be looked to by other organization staff including management, business or functional groups, technical teams, content teams, and IT groups for guidance or research focused on adopting technologies to achieve greater continuous integration and other DevOps goals.

Qualifications:

Education and Years of Experience:

  • 10+ years of experience engineering and managing highly resilient, cloud or on-premise, hosting infrastructure for 3-tier custom applications, applications development infrastructure, and associated databases
  • 5+ years of experience administrating Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 operating systems
  • 2+ years of experience administrating Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7 operating systems
  • 2+ years of experience integrating Linux systems with Microsoft Domains including leveraging DNS, Certificate Authorities, and integrated account authentication
  • 3+ years of experience administrating Red Hat Satellite product for automated server provisioning and automated patch distributions
  • 5+ years of experience implementing virtualization solutions like ESXi, RHEV, Hyper-V to support custom applications hosting needs
  • 3+ years of experience implementing storage area network (EMC) features to support custom application hosting needs
  • 3+ years of experience implementing highly resilient (clustered or replicated) database solutions, including Microsoft SQL clusters, Oracle RAC or others including, EnterpriseDB, PostGreSQL and/or MySQL
  • Experience implementing solutions hosting multiple Red Hat Enterprise Application Platform (EAP/Jboss) clusters
  • 3+ years of experience leveraging tools like Red Hat Satellite, Puppet, Chef, Salt, VMware vRealize Automation, or Ansible to automate system provisioning, role configurations, system patching, and security configuration compliance
  • 3+ years of experience implementing supplemental custom application point solutions including web application firewalls, load balancers, attachment scanners, and proxy servers
  • 3+ years of experience implementing automated vulnerability and compliance mitigations based on FISMA, FedRAMP, NIST 800-53, and CIS using established systematic, repeatable processes and automation tools
  • 2+ years of experience implementing Secure Socket Layer (SSL) solutions
    2+ years of experience implementing Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) solutions
  • 2+ years of experience implementing supplemental technologies to support DevOps objectives like code management version controls, artifact tracking, messaging, session caching, orchestration, deployment/build automation, and microservices capabilities
  • 2+ years of experience with network troubleshooting and analysis including administrating TCP/IP, UDP, ICMP, MAC address spaces, IP packets inspection utilizing wireshark, Microsoft or other DNS management and load balancing

Required Skills/Certifications:

  • Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA)
  • Red Hat Certified EAP (JBOSS) Administrator
  • Red Had Certified Engineer (RHCE)
  • Advanced knowledge of central management and provisioning products and automation approaches such as VMware templates, Satellite profiles, Puppet manifest and script development, Bash script development
  • Advanced knowledge configuring load balancing for custom application instances or database clusters
  • Automation scripting utilizing Ruby, Python, Powershell/PowerCLI, and/or Regex
  • Experience with the use of version control systems for code management and artifact tracking, including SVN, Git
  • Experience with BigIP, Netscalar, HAProxy or equivalent
  • Experience with Trustwave WAF, modproxy or equivalent
  • Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, or Red Hat OpenShift
    Experience with DevOps automation tools, including Chef, Puppet, or Ansible
  • Experience with DevOps software deployment automation including Jenkins or Bamboo
  • Experience with a variety of build tools, including Maven, Gradle, CMake, Spring, or SBT and OS Packaging, including RPM or Deb
  • Experience with continuous monitoring tools, including SCOM and Splunk
  • Experience with syslog configurations log aggregation
  • Experience with Centrify Server Authentication
  • Ability to work in an existing technical environment and map out a roadmap for short, medium, and long term solution strategies to meet the client’s strategic goals
  • Experience with AGILE concepts
  • Ability to create development system design and architecture artifacts
  • Experience with the full software or systems development life cycle, including requirements analysis, design, integration, testing, and implementation
